ABOUT ME
Hello! I am Jeanette Whyman
Though I’ve been a qualified counsellor for several years now, my route into this work began long before my formal counselling training. I worked for many years as a lawyer so I completely understand how tough it is, trying to balance constant pressure from work, with maintaining relationships, having time for a family life whilst looking after your own health.
It is a struggle and taking time out for yourself can feel impossible. All of this may have resulted in you suffering anxiety and depression, you may be worried about your health and stress levels. These are all areas I appreciate through my personal experience as well as my counselling work.

My approach
As an Integrative Trauma-Informed Counsellor, I recognise that everyone is unique, which is why I take a personalised, tailored approach to therapy. My goal is to create a safe, welcoming space where you feel heard, respected, and supported. I use a variety of therapeutic methods because I understand that what works for one person may not work for another. Ultimately, I want you to feel comfortable and at ease throughout our sessions, knowing that you can explore whatever is on your mind without judgment.
I am trauma-informed, which means exploring the life events which have brought you to this point and the impact these have had upon you. Within a safe and supportive environment, we will work together to find compassionate and effective ways for you to develop resilience and healing.
Sitting across from a counsellor and opening up can feel intimidating or overwhelming at first. To help ease that discomfort, I offer calming techniques that will help you feel grounded and centred, allowing space for a sense of calm during our time together. If it suits you, creative tools like drawing, colouring, or journaling can offer a different way to express your thoughts and emotions in ways that feel natural and comfortable for you.
With each session, I bring warmth, empathy, and a genuine commitment to help you navigate whatever life is bringing your way. Through our work together, you will not only feel heard and understood but also empowered to recognise and make the changes you want in your life—whether that’s healing, growing, or finding your way forward at your own pace. Resolving your past traumas will reshape your future.
Keeping you safe
As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I adhere to their professional and ethical standards, ensuring that your well-being, confidentiality, and respect are always prioritised.
My BACP membership also requires ongoing professional development, allowing me to stay up-to-date with the latest therapeutic methods to best support you.
Additionally, the BACP offers an independent complaints procedure, giving you peace of mind that you have access to formal support if needed. This membership reflects my commitment to providing the highest standard of care throughout our work together.
