ABOUT ME

Hello! I am Jeanette Whyman

I have been exactly where you are now. I understand.

Though I’ve been a qualified counsellor for several years now, my route into this work began long before my formal counselling training.  I worked for many years as a lawyer so I completely understand how tough it is, trying to balance constant pressure from work, with maintaining  relationships, having time for a  family life whilst looking after your own  health. It is a struggle and taking time out for yourself can feel impossible.  All of this may have resulted in you suffering anxiety and depression, you may be worried about your health and stress levels. These are all areas I appreciate through my personal experience as well as my counselling work.

Counselling for change

You are probably here because you have a feeling that something needs to change –  it may be that you have already identified exactly what it is or just a general sense that things cannot continue as they are. Sometimes, it’s hard to pinpoint precisely what is wrong, but you know something needs to shift. That awareness is the first step on your path, and I’m here to help you along the way.

I offer the space and time you need to explore the areas of your life that you feel are out of balance. It may be that unresolved issues from the past are affecting your ongoing relationships, causing overwhelming life stresses and emotional pain.  I am here to listen and accept you without judgment and to ensure you feel safe and supported.

This will be the basis for us to work together to understand how you got here and to help you discover what changes you want to see now and in your future.

Many of us experience emotions we feel unable to share with those closest to us—whether it’s fear of judgment, feelings of shame, or the simple desire not to burden others. Carrying such emotion alone is tiring, physically and mentally. You do not have to carry this weight alone.

Seeking support will bring clarity and relief.

Take a moment to imagine how you want your future to look. When you are ready, I’m here to help you make the changes you need to reshape your present and work towards that future.

CHOOSING A COUNSELLOR

Why Choose Me

Mainly because I have been exactly where you are now. I understand.

Approach

I am an integrative counsellor. I draw on a variety of therapeutic approaches to tailor my support to your unique needs and preferences.

This allows us to work together in a way that suits you best, combining techniques from different schools of thought and using different techniques and tools to help you explore and understand who you are.

Commitment

Counselling is most effective when there is a regular commitment, and I recommend starting with weekly sessions to begin your therapy.

This will establish a firm footing for you to fully explore all of the issues that have brought you to counselling.

As to the number of sessions each person requires, this varies for everyone. However, we can discuss this and regularly review it throughout our sessions to ensure the counselling is meeting your needs and goals.

Outcomes

The sessions will be designed to meet your needs and goals. In essence, counselling is for you to explore where you are now, what has brought you here, and what you would like to change.

The sessions should help you gain clarity and insight into your thoughts and feelings, allowing you time for self-reflection and growth. They will examine the past and how it has shaped you, as well as identify areas of your life where you would like to make changes.

Ultimately, counselling is about helping you move forward. It helps you set goals, explore new possibilities, and develop the skills and resilience to create the life you want.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Is counselling right for me?

Counselling offers a safe and compassionate space to explore life’s challenges. It’s your opportunity to pause, reflect, and gain clarity on your thoughts and feelings.

We may uncover coping patterns you’ve developed over time. While these strategies once served you well, they might now be holding you back.
I see counselling as gently unravelling the past to help you understand it better, empowering you to make informed choices for your future.

It’s about creating space for growth, healing, and moving forward with a renewed sense of self.

How do I know if you are the right counsellor for me?

Research has shown that the key to growth and successful counselling is the relationship with the counsellor. I truly believe this to be the case, and as this is such a fundamental pillar, it is essential you choose the right counsellor for you.

I offer an initial 20-minute session, either on the phone or online, to discuss your needs and ensure you’re comfortable working with me. There is no charge for this.  There is no obligation for us to work together following this session, and I encourage you to speak with or contact several counsellors before deciding who is the right fit for you.

Can I bring someone along to the session?

You are very welcome to bring someone along if, for example,  you are worried about travelling to the therapy room but they can’t come into the counselling session with you. The sessions provide you with space and time, are confidential, and are tailored to meet your needs.

Will you discuss what I say with other people?

Everything you share with me is kept completely confidential, and your data is held in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). I am registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

However, there are times when I may be bound to breach confidentiality, namely if I am concerned about your safety and believe you are at risk of harm, or I am concerned about the safety of a child or vulnerable adult and believe they are at risk of harm.

Equally, if there is an order from the Court asking for information, then I am under a duty to disclose information.
